Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church

Presbyterian Women engage in Bible Study, service and mission. All women are invited to participate in circles, gatherings, and projects. Our motto is: Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves:
· to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study
· to support the mission of the church worldwide
· to work for justice and peace
· to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens
The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and
witnesses to the promise of God's Kingdom.
We have
regular and special offerings. The PW Birthday Offering is normally
received in the spring. These funds support predetermined large projects
selected annually by the Creative Ministries Offering Committee. Each project,
limited to not more than five, are programs not included in ongoing General
Assembly mission support, chosen on the basis of meeting the needs of hurting
people and with the faith that adequate money to fund them will be received. The
PW Thank Offering originated in the late 1800's with Eliza Clokey of
Springfield, Ohio. Her plan was to ask each woman to give a gift in addition to
her usual contribution to the Women's General Missionary Society of the United
Presbyterian Church of North America as a "thank offering to our Lord." In 1888,
the women designated a day for prayer and thanksgiving when this special
offering should be received. These sacrificial gifts, it is said, saved the
worldwide missionary movement of their denomination. As a part of Celebration
Giving, the Thank Offering (including Health Ministries) continues to be given
by Presbyterian Women. Given in the fall, the offering may represent a one-time
gift or it may be the accumulation of money saved through the year. Forty
percent (40%) of this offering is used to support hospitals and community health
programs that place priority in helping the neediest members of God's community.
The remaining sixty percent (60%) is used for new creative ideas for mission,
undesignated in advance.
One of our current projects: Thornwell
Home & School for Children in
Clinton, South Carolina, has been taking care of children and youth in need
since its founding on October 1, 1875. We are collecting
Campbell’s Soup labels
and Labels for Education to help support this ministry of the PCUSA.
Labels may be placed in the envelope on the PW bulletin board in Founders Hall .
